The Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD comes ready to have direct contact with your iPhone or iPod. This connectivity allows you to play both video and music through the USB interface cable.
The downside here is that this cable is sold separately. So, to make use of this feature, you’ll have to spend some extra money. However, it’s absolutely worth it (in our opinion). Why? Because you can see the album artwork, artist, time, song name, and everything else set out beautifully on the screen.
You can even use Link Search and Alphabet Search to help you find the song or video you are looking for. No more spending ages skipping through your playlists!
While your iPhone or iPod is connected here, this double-DIN unit will keep it charged. This is beyond useful when you go on long journeys.
Unlike some earlier units, the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD has so many customization options. You can choose from five display colors (blue, amber, red, violet, and green) and 112 illumination colors. This allows you to match your dash to the rest of your car, making for a highly personalized experience.
Alongside this, you can change the background image. There are a few to choose from, allowing you to switch up based on your mood.
While this unit doesn’t come with a navigation chip already, it does have the slot for it. So, if you want to switch from using your phone to get you from A to B, then you can purchase the AVIC-U220 add-on. Then, you’ll be able to input the address on the 5.8-inch touchscreen and away you go.
The Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD is only compatible with Apple products. This is rather unfortunate, however, the seamless Apple to unit connection is amazing (especially for the relatively low price you’ll pay for the unit).
Using the App Mode on the device, you can listen and view videos and audio content right from the double-DIN display unit. You can use a variety of Apple iOS apps this way, but it’s worth noting that not all applications will be compatible with App Mode.
Overall, the connectivity and no-lag playback features are fantastic. We really enjoyed this and it works well with the sold-separately steering wheel control line too.
Technically speaking, you can use a multitude of rearview cameras. However, it is recommended that you use the Pioneer NDBC5. Why? Because this was made with the AVH-P1400DVD in mind so you won’t have any compatibility or connectivity issues.
This rearview camera comes with a wide-angle lens, automatic light adjustment, attractive aluminum casing, and a one-year warranty. Perfect!
The navigation system that you can use with the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD is the Pioneer AVIC-U220 navigation module.
